The City of Galesburg seeks interested applicants to fill part-time Recreation Attendant positions in the Department of Parks and Recreation. These part-time positions work various hours in connection with youth and adult sports as well as other recreational
programs.
The part-time Recreation Attendant is paid at $12 per hour. Recreation Attendants may function as concessions staff, boat attendants, camp counselors, admissions staff, and scorekeepers, as assigned, and generally assist the permanent full-time employees in the Recreation Division.
This position with our department is focused on safety, customer service & fun! You will
be engaged with a variety of opportunities to support guests as they recreate in our
programs and facilities. Our team members often work at the following locations: Lake Storey Beach, Lake Storey Pavilion, Lakeside Water Park, Lakeside Recreation Facility,
Lakeside Nature Center, Hawthorne Gym, and public parks.
Can't work the full summer? Our seasonal commitments are flexible if you communicate your needs ahead of time. We hope to have you for 20-40 hours a week from Memorial Day weekend through 8/14/2022, with 2-3 weeks of time off for your social commitments. If you need more time off, have sports schedules to work around, or need
to start/end at a different time, that may be possible.
Both seasonal and year round work is available.
Essential Duties of the Position
- Assists with the admissions, concessions, and boat rentals for a variety of recreation locations
- Assists with the rental of a variety of recreational locations (including set up, tear down, day of rental monitoring, and cleaning)
- Assists with the registration and check in of guests for activities
- Assists with athletic events including scorekeeping, set up/tear down, and concessions work
- Assists with special events such as the easter egg hunt, touch a truck etc.
- Maintains a healthy, clean and safe work environment
- Maintains good public relations and effective communications
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- CPR, AED, first aid certification within three months of hire
- Food Safety Handler certification within three months of hire
- Applicants must be 16 years of age or older
Required Skill and Ability
The successful applicant must possess the ability to:
- Read, write and understand the English language
- Read, interpret and apply policies and procedures
- Comply with all City and Departmental safety rules and policies
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with the public and co-workers
- Perform moderate recreational activity in an outdoor environment
- Maintain required certifications for position
- Lift 30-50lbs
Ideal Requirements
Any candidates with the following qualifications will be considered for additional job duties such as fitness instructor, nature staff, games leader, camp counselor, swim team coach, and leadership positions.
- Food Manager Certification
- Experience or training as a teacher
- Experience or training as a swim coach
- Experience or training as a fitness instructor
- Experience or training as a camp counselor
- Experience or training as an activity instructor
- Experience or training with outdoor activities (such as scouting)
- Experience or training with paddle sports
- Other management experience
